Clearing FAQs

If you don’t have a confirmed university place, Clearing can help you find one.

UCAS will inform you if/ when you are in Clearing through your UCAS Hub account. You’ll then need to contact universities to check course vacancies and whether they’ll accept you based on your achieved qualifications.

If you’ve already got your results, or once you have them, you can use the search tool on UCAS to find the course/s that you’re interested in.

Speak to the Universities that you’d like to find a place with. When you've found a place you can add your Clearing choice in your application in UCAS.

See the UCAS website for the most up-to-date guidance and details on applying through Clearing.

We’ll ask for your Clearing number or UCAS ID, along with some basic personal details such as your date of birth, address, email, and information about your qualifications and grades.

All of this information will be stored securely on our Clearing database and we will only use the details to contact you.

Yes, you can still apply to Keele. You can begin a UCAS application in the Clearing cycle providing you already meet the course entry criteria. We don't make conditional offers in Clearing.

Alternatively, if you're only applying to Keele, we may be able to offer you a place directly. You can begin this process by emailing our Admissions Team at admissions@keele.ac.uk stating which course you would like to be considered for and that you are not in the UCAS cycle this year.  We'll also need to see copies of your qualifications and a brief personal statement.

To enter Clearing you must have all of your official exam results from the relevant awarding body. We only issue unconditional offers in Clearing so you need to have obtained all of your exams results (usually including any GSCE Maths or English results) before you can apply to us through Clearing.

If you've secured your place at Keele through Clearing unfortunately it's not possible to defer it.

Yes. If you have already applied for Student Finance, it is easy to change your details by logging in to your account at https://logon.slc.co.uk/cas/login and going to: Your Account>Change your application>University/college course.

Your application will be re-assessed and you'll be informed about any changes to the amount of student finance you're eligible for.

If you haven't applied for Student Finance and have secured a place through Clearing you need to apply now. This can take up to six weeks to be processed so the sooner you apply, the sooner you will receive your funds.

There will be a limited number of rooms on campus available if you're joining us through Clearing. If our on-campus accommodation is full, our Student Accommodation Team will support you in finding accommodation in the local area and provide you with a free bus pass for the year* (terms apply).

Keele Student Pad is our local area accommodation hub, where we invite landlords, accredited by a landlord accreditation scheme, to advertise their properties. There's a rigorous checking process in place ensuring we only advertise accredited landlords with valid safety certificates.

We can provide advice and guidance in finding you the right accommodation and are happy to talk through your choices over the telephone.

Visit our accommodation webpages for more information.

You can apply for accommodation if:

  • You have waited for 48 hours following acceptance of your Keele offer via UCAS track. This is important as the system needs time to process your acceptance.
  • You have your Keele University student number. We will send this when we receive your application. This is an 8 digit number and is your identification in the system.
  • You have decided what accommodation to apply for. There may be some en-suite bedrooms still available but these will be in high demand so it is a good idea to look at a non en-suite alternative as well.

If after 48 hours, you are still unable to apply please contact the Student Accommodation Office on accommodation@keele.ac.uk.

*Please note that the offer of a bus pass does not apply to students living in University accommodation, living in the family home or students who find their own off campus accommodation and have not applied for University accommodation. This also includes applicants who have declined or failed to accept an offer of university accommodation.

You will shortly receive an email from Keele, which will provide information on:

  • details of your offer
  • next steps if you wish to accept the offer
  • accommodation position at Keele and how to apply
  • visiting Keele

If you have not received an email regarding your offer after 2 hours of receiving the verbal offer, please email us at clearing@keele.ac.ukPlease also check your SPAM folder.
