On the afternoon of April 26, there will be a sharing of findings from Ceri Morgan's AHRC Leadership Fellowship, 'Heartlands/Pays du coeur: Geohumanities and Quebec's "regional" fiction', and discussions on next steps.
The project looks at representations of Quebec's Eastern Townships and l'Estrie in contemporary fiction and creative nonfiction in French and English and adopts a mix of desk-based and participatory methods. It sees Ceri work with other artists, researchers, and community members to create new artistic responses to the region, including a digital map, audio-walk, poetry, music, and dance.
There will be a live performance of the dance choreographed by Clare Reynolds (5-7 minutes) with music composed by Paul Rogerson at 1.45pm (GMT) outside Keele Hall (near the Italian Gardens), Keele University, that will be open to all to attend. From 2.15pm (GMT) to 5pm (GMT), there will be presentations on the project by Ceri, research assistant, Eleni Polychronakos (COHDS, Concordia University), who undertook oral history interviews with current and former residents, and choreographer, Clare Reynolds. There will be a reading by Quebec poet, Sarah Burgoyne, then collective discussions about reading and writing, regions, deindustrialisation, participatory and creative methods, and more! Presentations will be in English, but questions and comments in French are, of course, welcome!
