Four Keele staff appointed to REF 2021 panels
Four members of staff from Keele University have been appointed as panel members for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).
The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. The first set of main and sub-panel members have been named for both the criteria phase and the assessment phase of the REF.
Professor Alicia El Haj has been appointed to the Engineering sub-panel for the criteria phase. Professor El Haj is Professor of Cell Engineering, and Theme Lead for Regenerative Medicine at Keele University.
Professor David Amigoni has been appointed to the sub-panel for English Language and Literature. Professor Amigoni is Professor of Victorian Literature, and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at Keele University.
Professor Julius Sim has been appointed to the sub-panel for Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy. Professor Sim is Professor of Health Care Research, and Director of Postgraduate Taught Programmes within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Keele University.
In addition, Victoria Macfarlane, Head of Research Strategy Delivery in the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Engagement at Keele, has been appointed to the REF secretariat, supporting the sub-panels of Biological Sciences; Education; and Music, Dance, Drama and Performing Arts and Screen Studies
The criteria phase of the REF will take place in 2018, and will involve the development of the detailed guidance and criteria for REF 2021. The assessment phase of the REF will commence in late 2020 and continue throughout 2021, and will involve the full assessment of submissions made by institutions.
Professor Mark Ormerod, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost commented:
“I’m delighted that four colleagues from Keele University have been appointed to REF 2021 sub-panels. This is testament to the strength of our research expertise, particularly the interdisciplinary aspect of our work. We look forward to working with colleagues from across the sector in development of the next REF.”
