Keele launches new high-spec gaming laboratory
Keele University’s School of Computing and Mathematics recently opened a new state-of-the-art gaming station laboratory.
The computing suite, named after its sponsor Overclockers UK which provided 24 high-spec gaming PCs, will be used by students during their lectures, and available exclusively to Keele Esports Society members in the evenings as a training facility.
The Overclockers UK Gaming Lab, based in the Colin Reeves building, was launched at a gaming event that saw the suite filled with gamers and was also streamed online. Keele Esports Society is open to students who are interested in all aspects of competitive gaming, on both the professional scene and the amateur level.
Professor Peter Andras, Head of the School of Computing and Mathematics, said: “We are very pleased to have opened the Overclockers Gaming Lab within the School. This is an excellent opportunity to provide students with a great gaming environment and at the same to have a high spec computer lab for teaching and research purposes as well.
“The generous support from Overclockers is very much appreciated. We are also very grateful to our technical support team who did a lot of work to make the lab a reality and the Gaming Society, which initiated the discussions about the lab and organised the use of the facility by gaming enthusiasts outside of office hours. Keele’s Hack Society also worked with the Gaming Society to promote the facility among our students and the University IT Services initially connected the partners of this project and supported it all along.”
