Sustainability will be celebrated across campus during Keele Green Festival which is taking place from 11 to 17 March.

Each day has a themed goal including health and wellbeing, equality and diversity, ethical consumption, education for sustainability and ‘living-labs’ for sustainability, which are all linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The week starts off with a health and well-being day featuring a working on how to have a healthy balanced life, a campus walk and a fermentation workshop, led by Emma Cronin from Wild Pickle. There will be a smoothie bike and sustainable food stall in the Keele Students’ Union, massages available to book and an opportunity to give ‘forest bathing’ a try.

Tuesday’s workshops aim to tackle the issues of reduced inequalities exploring gender inequality and language and the role of women in higher education, and on Wednesday the festival focuses on ethical consumption hosting an Ethical Makers and Producers Fayre, a cooking workshop and a sustainability forum.

The spotlight is on quality education on Thursday with sessions looking at decolonising the curriculum and the concept of listening for sustainability. In the evening there will be a screening of the thought-provoking film Plastic China, with free tickets available to book.

Partnerships for Goals is the final theme on Friday which will feature a student sustainability research symposium, a protest and campaigning workshop delivered by the National Union of Students, and a biodiversity/campus management tour. The week’s activity will be wrapped up with a closing party in the Students’ Union raising money for Renewable World.

The festival gives us the opportunity to showcase the long-established, innovative and collaborative approaches that Keele has to sustainability.
