Joint Education Institute approved with leading Chinese university
Keele University has been successful in its application to establish a new Joint Education Institute in Chengdu in the west of China, with the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CDUTCM), a leading Chinese “National Double First Class” University with over 25,000 students.
The Joint Institute has been formally approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education, meaning Keele will be one of around 30 UK universities with a Joint Institute in China. The Institute will offer students the opportunity to receive a dual degree from Keele and CDUTCM.
Initially there will be two four-year undergraduate degree programmes in Rehabilitation and Exercise Therapy, and in Public Health, with the first students enrolling in September 2023, with the Institute providing a basis for further degree programmes and collaborative research opportunities to be developed.
Professor Mark Ormerod, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost of Keele University, said: “We are delighted that our application to establish a Joint Institute with the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the area of Health and Medical Sciences has been successful.
“This is a really exciting and important development for Keele and represents a major achievement and an important step for the University, one which will significantly enhance Keele’s reputation and profile in China.
“I am extremely grateful to colleagues across the institution who have contributed so much to the development of the partnership with CDUTCM and to the success of the Joint Institute application over a period of more than two years.
“We are really looking forward to the first students enrolling on our new dual degree programmes in September.”
