Chemistry ranks highly in NSS 2024
Chemistry courses at Keele have been ranked among the best in the country for student positivity, according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS).
The courses were rated number four in the UK, up from 26th position last year, with 91 per cent of students responding positively. The course also scored highly - 100 per cent - for 'academic support' and 'student voice'.
The annual National Student Survey is one of its largest exercises of its kind in the world, with almost 346,000 final year students in the UK taking time to answer questions on their university experience. The 2024 edition of the survey posed 26 core questions on issues including academic experience, teaching and assessments, and well-being services.
Professor Anna Meredith OBE, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, said: "We're delighted by these results, which reflect the hard work of our outstanding Chemistry staff. We have listened to our students in rebuilding our programme after Covid, incorporating more interactivity and more authentic assessment, and are pleased to see this reflected in the NSS results, with high scores for student voice, teaching and the clarity and usefulness of our assessment.
"Covid impacted our NSS scores as the restrictions made it hard to deliver the student experience we aspire to, and it’s great to be back to seeing many students praising the approachability of staff in the free text comments. These results confirm Keele's position as an exceptional place to study Chemistry and the unique, supportive campus environment we are proud to provide."
Seven other subjects at Keele secured top 10 rankings in the survey, including human resource management, geography, mental health nursing, media studies, mathematics, midwifery and human biology.
