Keele University’s work to improve opportunities for students from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in higher education has been recognised in a prestigious national assessment. 

The University has risen 16 places to rank 23rd in England in the latest Social Mobility Index, published this month by the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI). 

The Index uses metrics covering students’ entire university cycle to calculate an overall ranking for each institution, including accessibility to university, students’ continuation on their courses, and graduate outcomes for undergraduates on all modes of study (excluding apprenticeships). 

Keele performed particularly strongly in both the “continuation” and “graduate outcomes” categories in this year’s assessment, recognising its work to produce employable graduates and ensure that all students can make the most of their university experience during their time at Keele. 

Every undergraduate degree (excluding Apprenticeships and 'top-up' degrees) at Keele now offers a placement year or an integrated clinical or professional placement, further highlighting the university’s work to increase connections and employability prospects for students through strong links to businesses and industry partners. 

The University is also committed to ensuring all students have the best chance to succeed, with alternative and contextual offers available for applicants from under-represented groups.
