Keele celebrates graduating its 2,024th medical student
Keele University marked its contribution to the health service in Staffordshire, Shropshire and beyond as it celebrated its 2,024th medical student to graduate.
Mohamed Jalloh received a Medicine MBChB as part of the University's 2024 summer graduation ceremonies, joining 2,023 other medicine professionals to qualify through one of the University's medicine degrees since it began teaching clinical undergraduate medicine in 2002.
Mohamed will now be applying the knowledge and skills gained at Keele in a real-world setting, working directly with patients and healthcare teams at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.
He said: "Being a doctor has always been a lifelong goal of mine, so graduating from Keele and being awarded my Bachelor of Medicine feels like a surreal and incredible achievement.
"This milestone also brings a personal sense of achievement, knowing that I've successfully navigated a challenging and rigorous course that has involved years of hard work, dedication and perseverance.
"Being the 2,024th medical student to graduate is a testament to Keele's established program, and I feel proud to be a part of it."
Graduates of Keele's undergraduate medical degrees have gone on to serve communities and pursue careers in a range of specialist fields, from forensic pathologists to psychiatrists, GPs and cardiothoracic surgeons.
Medical students at Keele benefit from extensive links with local and regional hospitals and healthcare trusts, providing an excellent level of 'hands-on' experience with patients in a wide variety of settings. Keele also has partnerships with more than 100 GP practices in the area, where students can help support the health and wellbeing of local communities and benefit from gaining clinical experience and quality placements.
Professor Peter Coventry, Executive Dean to the School of Medicine, said: "We're delighted to have graduated our 2,024th medical student in 2024, and in the same year that Keele is celebrating its 75th anniversary. It really is testament to the dedication and hard work of our students and staff in the past, present and future.
"Keele has a long and proud history of training medical professionals to serve our communities and working with the local NHS and care providers to deliver wide-ranging and world-leading research and education partnerships. We're immensely proud of the achievements of our students and the life-changing careers they embark on after leaving Keele, with many of them staying local."
Keele was recently ranked among the best universities in the UK to study Medicine in a prestigious national university guide. The Guardian University Guide 2024 saw Medicine at Keele ranked 6th in the UK, fending off competition from renowned institutions including Oxford and Imperial College London.
