Keele highly ranked for impact on global sustainability issues in prestigious international ranking
Keele University has ranked among the top universities in the world for its efforts to tackle pressing global challenges in an esteemed international ranking.
The 2024 Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings have ranked over 2,000 universities around the world on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including their research performance, and how their efforts contribute to a more sustainable world.
This year’s ranking has seen Keele placed in the Top 10 globally for SDG 10, reducing inequalities, the University’s highest ever ranking, as well as ranking 4th in the UK. Keele also ranked in the Top 15 in the world for its performance for SDG 16, promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions, also coming 4th in the UK in this category.
Top performing universities for SDG 10 were ranked for their research quality and commitment to ensuring equal opportunity and inclusion through effective implementation of policies, working towards equitable income growth and responsible migration. The top global universities for SDG 16 were ranked on their research quality, working with Government and government bodies and for promoting inclusive societies, enhancing access to justice and fostering transparent institutions.
The THE University Impact Rankings have established themselves as the leading global ranking for universities for their commitment to and performance addressing the world's most pressing challenges captured by the Sustainable Development Goals, including environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic growth and partnerships.
Professor Mark Ormerod, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, said: “I’m delighted that Keele has been ranked so highly globally, and nationally, in the high profile, prestigious THE Global Rankings for its performance against three of the seven Sustainable Development Goals it submitted to, achieving its highest ever individual global rankings.
"This performance reflects Keele’s continued institutional commitment to sustainability framed around the Sustainable Development Goals. I am confident that we will see further successes in these environmental and social sustainability rankings in future years as we strengthen and focus our commitment to sustainability.”
