Keele opens new Exercise Physiology lab to support students and researchers
A new Exercise Physiology laboratory, the first of two new dedicated sport and exercise laboratories, has opened at Keele University following the launch of a suite of new sport programmes to ensure students, as well as researchers, are at the forefront of sports and exercise science.
The Exercise Physiology laboratory is equipped with industry-standard measuring and analysis equipment, designed to monitor every minute detail of an athlete’s physiology to help them maintain peak performance.
The lab will be used by students and researchers on a suite of courses including the new Sport and Exercise Science course, our new Sport and Exercise Psychology course, and our redesigned Rehabilitation and Exercise Science degree, all launched under Keele’s new Institute of Sport, and will give students the chance to merge scientific knowledge, hands-on practical experience, and professional practice by learning in an industry-standard environment.
The investment in facilities at Keele as part of the new Institute also includes a new Human Performance Laboratory currently in development, due to be opened in the 2024/25 academic year.
Professor Mark Ormerod, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, said: “The expansion of our academic portfolio with the launch of a suite of new sport degrees is a really exciting development for the University, and a natural fit for Keele University given our existing research and education expertise in healthcare, science, psychology and business.
“The investment in specialist laboratory facilities will give students studying our new sport courses at Keele the best possible foundation for a career in the sport, physical activity and wellbeing sectors.”
The new Institute of Sport builds on Keele’s well-established and leading reputation in health and medicine, rehabilitation and exercise science, business, and psychology, to deliver a suite of new sports-aligned degree programmes, which also includes Sports Business Management and Esports Business Management, with further new programmes to follow.
