Keele launches suite of new Sport degrees
The psychology, business, and physical science of sport are among the subjects students will explore in a suite of exciting new sport courses being introduced at Keele University.
The new undergraduate courses in Sport and Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sports Business Management, and Esports Business Management, alongside a refreshed existing degree in Rehabilitation and Exercise Science, will ensure students are fully equipped for a career in the sport and physical activity industry in a number of different fields.
A new postgraduate degree in Sports Business Management will also be offered, with all of the new courses to be brought together under the umbrella of an Institute of Sport.
The programmes will build on Keele’s well-established and leading reputation in health and medicine, rehabilitation and exercise science, business, and psychology, to deliver the suite of new sports-aligned degree programmes, and will also benefit from significant investment in new facilities to support teaching and research.
These include two new laboratories for students to study biomechanics and exercise physiology, with one laboratory already complete and another scheduled to open next year.
Students studying at Keele can also benefit from the University’s Talented Athlete Support Programme, which is designed to help students sustain their level of sport and fitness whilst studying. The Programme offers a range of support, from access to sports facilities and coaches, to physiotherapy and help with seeking funding.
Professor Mark Ormerod, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at Keele University, said: "Our existing research and education expertise in healthcare, science, psychology and business make our new Sport programmes a natural fit for Keele University and our campus environment as we expand our academic portfolio into sport and exercise.
“The investment in our new education facilities and the new academic appointments we have brought on board will give students studying our new sports courses at Keele the best possible foundation for a career in the sporting, physical activity, and wellbeing sectors.”
