Emergency Services
The ambulance, fire and police services are all available 24 hours a day. You can contact the emergency services by telephoning 999 and asking for the service you need. If you are not sure which service you require, explain your situation to the operator and they will arrange to help you.
You should only telephone 999 if the situation is life threatening or there is a serious risk to you or someone else.
Police
You can contact the police in an emergency on 999. If you want to report something to the Police that isn’t an emergency dial 101. If you wish to report a crime anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111.

Fire service
The fire service attend all types of fires and incidents such as road traffic collisions or those where people may be trapped or stranded. If you are in a building which is on fire, you should leave the building and then call 999.

Ambulance service
You can contact the ambulance service in an emergency by dialling 999.
For health problems which need urgent medical attention but do not require ambulance services, you should visit your nearest hospital with an Accident and Emergency department, such as the Royal Stoke University Hospital on the Stoke-on-Trent / Newcastle-under-Lyme border.
For non-emergency situations, you can call 111 to speak to a NHS nurse or doctor for advice 24 hours of the day.
