Adam Winterton

Biography

I graduated with a BSc (HONS) Physiotherapy from Coventry University in 2003. I then worked clinically at the Leicester Royal Infirmary National Health Service (NHS) Trust from 2003 as a Junior (AfC Band 5) physiotherapist before successfully gaining a Senior II (AfC Band 6) rotational highly specialist neurological physiotherapy post in 2005 at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The specialist post saw me gain invaluable experiences in:

• Acute Medical Rehabilitation, Neurology and Stroke

• High Dependency care including acute Brain Injury Unit, Intensive Care Unit and complex respiratory

• Outpatients including neurological, specialist muscular dystrophy and musculoskeletal clients

• Rehabilitation both acute, community, specialist younger adult neurological and domiciliary based

• Specialist care including bariatric, oncology, haematology, Bone Marrow Unit and infectious diseases

Following my passion for teaching and a long history of being a clinical educator I was successfully awarded the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Accredited Clinical Educator (ACE) status. I was appointed as a Teaching Fellow in Physiotherapy at Keele University in September 2012 and continue to hold this post. In May 2019, I became the Faculty International Director appointed to look after all international recruitment and marketing; Module leader for a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and foundation year modules.

In 2014, I completed a PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching at Keele University as well as a MSc in Neurological Physiotherapy (Merit) at Coventry University. My primary research conducted to date is into predicting rehabilitation potential in neurological patients. My future research aims are to further explore technology in healthcare education and predictive modelling for neurological patients.

I have been fortunate enough to have attended national and international conferences to present both posters and deliver platform presentations on my research and other projects including the World Confederation of Physical therapy (WCPT) conference in Singapore in May 2015, Physiotherapy Research Society (PRS) conference in Leicester in April 2015 and the Society of Research in Rehabilitation winter meeting in February 2018.

My main areas of interest are neurological physiotherapy, rehabilitation and clinical education. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), a fellow of the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and a registered physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Research and scholarship

My areas of research interest include the use of technology in physiotherapy education and predictive modelling for neurological patients.
