Biography
Eleanor studied Physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham, and after graduation began her career at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. Eleanor initially decided to specialise in Neurological Rehabilitation, progressing to Senior Physiotherapist within the outpatient Brain Injury Rehabilitation service. Whilst working at Moseley Hall Hospital in Birmingham, Eleanor developed an interest in chronic pain conditions, and eventually moved to Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust to take up a post as Advanced Physiotherapist in Pain Management. During this role, Eleanor pursued research interest in Graded Motor Imagery and Chronic Widespread Pain, and presented these at West Midlands Pain Conference in 2018. Eleanor also has an interest in Functional Neurological Disorders, and spent time with the specialist service at Queens Square. Eleanor completed some sessional teaching at University Trusts across the West Midlands, and a secondment at Keele University in 2022.
Eleanor worked in the ESD team for Stroke in Wolverhampton until taking up the post at Keele University in 2022.
Research and scholarship
Eleanor’s research interests include:
- Mechanisms of persistent pain
- Use of Graded Motor Imagery in persistent pain
- Improving patient experience and engagement in Pain Clinics
- Psychologically-informed Physiotherapy - how improving psychological understanding in Physiotherapists may improve adherence and outcomes in patients with long term conditions.
- Functional Neurological Syndrome

Eleanor teaches across the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Physiotherapy programmes.
