Biography
Biography
I obtained my BSc, MSc and PhD degrees at the Queen’s University of Belfast. I have worked in industry, for Unilever Research, and have also held a number of academic posts prior to joining Keele. I joined the Keele University School of Pharmacy in January 2010 where I am currently Director of Studies for the BSc Pharmaceutical Science, Technology & Business degree programme, subject lead for pharmaceutics and the School’s Early Resolution Officer (undergraduate).
Research and scholarship
Research and scholarship
My main research interests are in percutaneous absorption, particularly in the development of quantitative models of skin absorption, the percutaneous absorption of metals and the use of skin imaging techniques to understand the mechanism of skin permeation enhancement. Recent key achievements include:
- Organisation of the EPSRC POEMS-network-funded meeting on modelling of skin absorption at Keele Hall (Jan. 2017)
- Publication of a book on Mathematical Modelling of Percutaneous Absorption; Springer, 2015
- Member of the Scientific Organising Committee, Perspectives in Percutaneous Penetration Conference; Invited speaker and session chair, 2012 and 2014.
- Invited speaker and co-organiser of the 8th meeting of the International Society of the Stratum Corneum, Cardiff, September 2014; deputy chair and treasurer of this group.
- Co-Editor, Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients, Pharmaceutical Press & AAPS, 2018
to 2025.
