Biography

Prof Nolan is one of the UK's foremost interventional cardiologists. He trained in London, Leeds and Amsterdam and undertook a MD in Edinburgh while investigating cardiac autonomic function in patients with cardiac disease. Since taking up a post as consultant at UHNM in 1998 he has combined a busy clinical practice in interventional cardiology with an active program of postgraduate education and research.

Research and scholarship

Prof Nolan's principle research interests relate to heart failure and the use of trans-radial access for coronary intervention. He has established an internationally renowned cardiac research program and publishing a large number of peer reviewed papers including highly cited pivotal studies. His work has stimulated a major change in UK interventional practice with most centres now using radial access for interventional procedures with important benefits for patients.

Prof Nolan has contributed to numerous textbooks and is a regular lecturer at national and international conferences. He has served on the editorial boards of major cardiac journals and is a member of the governing council of the British Cardiovascular Interventional Society.
