Biography

Mary completed her undergraduate Physiotherapy degree at Brunel University in 1996. Following this, she completed her junior rotations in Salford at a district general NHS trust. Whilst rotating across a variety of specialities, Mary discovered her love for Musculoskeletal, Orthopaedics, Pain Management and Rheumatology. She specialised within this area working across both acute and community services in various locations throughout the UK.

Mary undertook her Master’s in Advanced Physiotherapy (Neuromusculoskeletal Rehabilitation) at University College London and graduated in 2010 with her dissertation project, “Longitudinal Excursion of the Median Nerve and Flexor Tendons in response to hand movements in asymptomatic subjects”. Mary also undertook an MSc module in Extended Scope Practice (Neuromusculoskeletal) at Coventry University in 2015.

Mary worked the last 6 years of her NHS career as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Musculoskeletal services within Shropshire providing advanced triage, assessment and management for complex musculoskeletal cases specialising in spinal disorders. She worked alongside a multi-disciplinary team of Advanced Physiotherapy and Podiatry Practitioners, Specialist General Practitioners, Orthopaedic Consultants and Musculoskeletal Radiologists from multiple NHS trusts in the Shropshire and West Midlands region.

Mary is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Musculoskeletal Association of Charted Physiotherapists (MACP). She is also a member of the Advanced Practice Physiotherapy Network (APPN).

Having always enjoyed the opportunity to provide clinical education and mentorship in her clinical roles, Mary joined Keele after 26 years of clinical practice to be able to combine her passions of education, mentorship and clinical practice to be able to support the next generation of Physiotherapists.

Mary is keen to develop within her role and is working towards her PG Cert in Higher Education Practice.
