Biography

Maxine is a Senior Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy. She is a paediatric Speech and Language Therapist who has worked in various settings including mainstream and special schools. Her most recent clinical experience focussed on integrating speech and language therapy into psychiatric and forensic services for young people.

She completed an MRes and a PhD in Psychological Sciences at the University of Manchester. Maxine went on to complete two post-doctoral appointments at other HEIs before joining Keele University in 2023.

She has also published recent research relating to the prevalence of developmental language disorder, socioemotional difficulties, and alexithymia in the young offender population. Additionally, she has considered the predictive ability of undiagnosed Developmental Language Disorder in relation to rates of recidivism. Maxine has also conducted secondary analysis on the Manchester Language Study data considering the long term effects of diagnosed Developmental Language Disorder.
