Biography

Rebecca currently works as a Lecturer in Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) in the School of Allied Health Professionals, whilst also working clinically as a senior paediatric radiographer at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. 

After qualifying as a Diagnostic Radiographer in 2011, Rebecca’s clinical experience includes over 10 years working in both highly specialised paediatric departments as well as within major trauma centres.

Rebecca has had a keen interest in paediatric technique adaptations, medicolegal aspects and role extension opportunities in paediatric radiography, which prompted her to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Imaging at University College of Dublin in 2016. 

Rebecca’s teaching and ongoing academic work surrounds; clinical skills and radiographic practice; paediatric technique adaptation and dose optimisation; and the use of simulation in clinical skills development, preparedness for practice and clinical placement expansion.

Research and scholarship

Research Interests:

  • Paediatric Dose Optimisation
  • Role extension in Paediatric Radiography
  • The role of pre-examination information interventions in patient anxiety
  • The use of simulation in clinical skills development, preparedness for practice and clinical placement expansion (in the academic and clinical setting).

  • UKIO 2023- short oral presentation- “Cultural competence education at Keele University for first year student radiographers preparing for placement - a qualitative study”
  • UKIO 2022- short oral presentation- “The opportunities and challenges of radiographer reporting within plain radiography in a specialist paediatric hospital: Legal, ethical and clinical dilemmas”.
  • UKIO 2019 – Poster presentation – implementation of low KV technique in digital imaging of paediatric extremities

Teaching

Rebecca currently teaches across several modules at level 4, 5 and 6 (predominantly paediatric technique and practice adaptations, clinical skills, anatomy and imaging applications).
