Biography

Having a background in both community pharmacy and paediatric research, I joined the School of Pharmacy at Keele University in December 2013 as a Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy.  I completed a PhD at the University of Birmingham in November 2013, which investigated barriers to administering oral medicines to children suffering from chronic conditions (http://etheses.bham.ac.uk/4799/). I work within the clinical team in the School of Pharmacy and teach a range of clinical therapeutic topics on the MPharm course.

Research and scholarship

My research interests lie within the field of paediatrics and include: barriers to medicines adherence, acceptance of solid oral dosage forms, unlicensed/off-label medicines use and prescribing. I have been involved in a breadth of different research projects, including those utilising large GP data sets. I also have a research interest in pharmacy education.

I recently completed an MA in higher education evaluating an innovative authentic assessment, and have a strong interest in pharmacy educational research.

I also have a strong interest in research and ethics, and have had substantial experience within this area. I have several publications across the discussed research areas, this includes international peer-reviewed journal articles, conference posters and abstracts and a book titled ‘A Practical Guide to Medicines Administration.

Teaching

As MPharm Course Director, I am responsible for the overall design and delivery of teaching and assessment for the MPharm. I have a wealth of experience in designing teaching sessions and assessments to meet learning outcomes. I recently designed, implemented and evaluated an authentic assessment for final year MPharm students. I am the lead for respiratory and pain therapeutics with respect to the undergraduate teaching and assessment. I lead an optional module on sexually transmitted infections –designing, delivering and assessing this module for undergraduate students. I have designed different summative assessments, including a triadic assessment (self, peer and tutor assessment). I supervise undergraduate research, audit and service evaluation Masters level projects as well as Masters and DPharm students.
