Biography
Sara Winter graduated from the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand in 2000. For the next 10 years Sara worked in various musculoskeletal clinics in New Zealand and the UK and completed her Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath in 2012. While completing the research component of her Masters she moved to Australia and started working as Clinical Educator/lecturer in Physiotherapy at James Cook University (JCU) in Queensland in 2011. While at JCU she started her PhD on running injuries and performance in 2015.
In 2019, Sara moved back to New Zealand to resume clinical work. She worked clinically in musculoskeletal private practice for 3 years and during this time completed her PhD in 2020. In September 2022, she headed back to higher education and started working at Keele University as Lecturer in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy.
Research and scholarship
Sara's interests include sports-related and running injuries, especially injuries of the hip. Her PhD investigated running biomechanics over ground using a 3D accelerometer and training load factors. She participated in a collaborative research project prior to her PhD to validate the use of accelerometers for assessing running biomechanics. She has supervised Physiotherapy honours students with research projects and has published a number of journal articles.
Teaching
Sara teaches across a number of undergraduate programmes in the School of Allied Health Professions.
