Biography

I obtained my MPharm degree at the University of Nottingham and belong to the pioneer group of 2+2 MPharm students from the Malaysia Campus. Following a successful year as a pre-registration pharmacist at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, I completed my Industrial PhD with Novo Nordisk (Denmark) and the University of Nottingham (UK). I also completed the ‘Business Course for Industrial PhD Students’ with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

I joined the Keele School of Pharmacy in January 2017 as a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

I am a registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (UK).

Research and scholarship

I am a multi-disciplinary researcher.

As a protein scientist and biophysicist, my science research focuses on understanding the interactions of Coagulation Factor XI with its co-factor, high molecular weight kininogen and its substrate, Coagulation Factor IX.

I am currently a Co-Investigator on an AHRC funded inter-disciplinary project entitled ‘From natural resources to packaging, an inter-disciplinary study of skincare products over time’. The project is conducted in collaboration with the University of Oxford (Dr. Thibaut Devièse) and the University of Glasgow (Dr. Jane Draycott). We are also collaborating with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Museum and the Boots Archive. More information about the project can be found here: http://gtr.rcuk.ac.uk/projects?ref=AH%2FN007174%2F1

Dr. Thibaut Devièse and I were also successful in securing a visiting fellowship under the Keele Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Visiting Fellowship Scheme.

I also research in the area of History of Art and Pharmacy. My research interests in this area include the history of medical saints (in particular, Saints Cosmas and Damian) and how they influenced the practice of pharmacy and art. I am also interested in Damien Hirst’s pharmacy related art works. I have published a peer-reviewed article in Kunstlicht on two of his self-portraits entitled ‘Contemplating a Self Portrait as a Pharmacist’ (1998) and ‘Concentrating on a Self-Portrait as a Pharmacist’ (2000).

I have also recently started researching into the built environment of pharmacy and how it could influence the behaviour of staff and patients alike.
