Welcome from the Head of School
Dr Bleddyn Davies, Head of the School of Law
I am delighted to welcome you to the School of Law. I am really proud to be Head of the School of Law, and I hope to meet and welcome you to Keele.
Going to University is a real milestone in anyone’s life and a big step that will shape your future in many ways. At university there will be new challenges, but most importantly there will be fantastic opportunities: to meet new people; learn a new subject; lead an independent student life; try new things and have fun. I know from experience that you will grow in confidence and develop new work and life skills and make lifelong connections within the Keele family of students, staff and professional contacts, including former students. At Keele you will be supported to make the transition to university life and study and encouraged to make the most of all our facilities, participate in exciting extra-curricular activities and societies and achieve your ambitions.
In the School of Law you will be part of a community of staff, students, and legal professionals. We have a distinctive profile in UK legal education as a School with a critical approach to legal education, one that seeks to understand the role of law within the wider context of society.
Our priority is student education and experience, and you will benefit from our individualised academic and pastoral support. You will be taught by people who are passionate about their subject, including leading researchers and textbook authors, who want you to succeed. Our degrees offer a wide range of choice so that you can tailor your degree to reflect your interests and career aspirations across different aspects of law including commercial, international, criminal and human rights.
There are wider opportunities for undergraduate students to learn a language, take a work placement year or study abroad (subject to eligibility/availability). You can also join our thriving student societies, the Student Law Society, and Mooting Society, and take part in social events as well as mooting, client interviewing and mediation competitions. You will meet legal professionals throughout your time at Keele, at our annual Law Fair and other careers focused events. There are further opportunities to develop skills for employment through supporting people at court through CLOCK, offering advice in our Commercial, Divorce and Small Claims, Legal Advice Clinics, or joining the Editorial Board of our own journal, the Keele law Review.
Congratulations on receiving your offer to study at the School of Law, Keele University. I look forward to welcoming you to Keele.
