Professor Julie Green, Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery

Welcome to the School of Nursing and Midwifery here at Keele University.

We are so pleased that you are interested in studying with us! Let me take this opportunity to tell you a little about the school.

My name is Professor Julie Green and I am the Head of School. I lead a dynamic academic team of nurses and midwives who deliver innovative and high-quality programmes at both pre- and post-registration.

For students who aspire to qualify as a nurse or midwife and enter the professional register, we offer all four fields of nursing - adult, child, mental health and learning disability – at both BSc and accelerated MSc. For our post-registration students, we provide a range of modules and programmes to extend skills and knowledge. Our teaching is delivered by clinical experts and you will benefit from working with lecturers with clinical credibility, insight, and enthusiasm for their area of expertise.

We will support your professional and personal development throughout our NMC approved pre-registration programmes. Our programme content will be delivered with a flexible combination of face-to-face sessions, asynchronous learning, independent study, and synchronous online sessions. You will undertake sessions at our extensive skills and simulation facilities, including our new ‘simulation’ houses equipped with advanced manikins, and, with the support of our dedicated staff, you will develop your skills and competencies in a safe environment. Your taught sessions will be located on campus and at the Clinical Education Centre, Royal Stoke site at the University Hospital of North Midlands. For 50% of your programme, 2300 hours, you will undertake learning in clinical practice, including clinical placements and simulation, supported by supervisors and assessors from clinical practice and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

We are a well performing School with great metrics; indeed, we are 7th in England for Nursing (Complete University Guide, 2023). We have our students' experience and achievement as our focus. Team members are personally active in research and scholarship, regularly presenting at national and international conferences. We are regularly nominated for awards, and in 2023 we were awarded the ‘Nurse Education Provider of the Year (Pre-registration)’ for our Midwifery Programme in the Student Nursing Times Awards.

We look forward to welcoming you to the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Keele in September!‌‌
