Geoscientist Degree Apprenticeship Stakeholder Event

To celebrate the launch of our Geoscientist Degree Apprenticeship at Keele University we are hosting a stakeholder event. Attendees will tour our top of the range facilities including Keele Campus Living Lab and (weather permitting) the Low Carbon Energy Generation Park and Horwood Energy Centre. We will also discuss the apprenticeship modules, course timings and how we support new apprentice employers and their staff to succeed.

The Geoscientist Degree Apprenticeship at Keele University covers core geoscience fundamentals applicable across various sectors, including:
- Geo-environmental consultancy.
- Geo-resource assessment.
- Green technology.
The programme offers learning and assessment options tailored to the individual's professional background. Learning on the apprenticeship is delivered via a combination of online content, face-to-face sessions and residential field courses during block release.
The apprenticeship learning incorporates a diverse range of modules designed to enhance both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Fieldwork and on-campus sessions focused on laboratory and specialised computer skills are integral components of the programme. In the final year, apprentices will prepare for the End-Point Assessment and can tailor modules to suit their role and career preferences.

- Geoscience Data Analysis.
- Geoethics & Environmental Justice.
- Environmental Impact Assessment.
- Applied Geophysics.
- Engineering and Applied Geology.
- Structures, Sub-surface Processes and Programming.
To complete an apprenticeship, you must be employed in an organisation with your employer's support. We typically require apprentice applications 8 weeks before programme starts and by undertaking an apprenticeship, you commit to completing the End Point Assessment (EPA).
The Geoscientist Apprenticeship typically requires.
- GCSE Maths and English ‘Level 2’ or higher​.
- A levels ‘BBB’, or BTEC ‘DDM’, or Int. baccalaureate ‘29’ typically expected. Where applicants can demonstrate substantial and relevant experience, formal qualifications may be waived e.g. work experience or other education schemes etc.
We will work in partnership with you to ensure you are supported throughout the apprenticeship process.

- This relationship does not stop once you start an apprenticeship at Keele University. We also have dedicated Work-Based Learning Officers to guide you through the apprenticeship when you are studying on one of our programmes.
- We offer a personalised approach to apprentices, ensuring you have the assistance you need from Keele University as your Training Provider, every step of the way.
Apprenticeships are paid for by employers, not apprentices.
- Employers with a payroll of more than £3 million can typically use their apprenticeship levy contributions to pay for places on apprenticeship programmes.
- Any business with a payroll below £3 million is usually eligible for government funding that will cover at least 95% of the cost of an apprenticeship course.
Additional incentives are also available to employers based on differing circumstances.

- Employer support for upskilling: Existing employees are encouraged to discuss with their employers the potential for support in upskilling through the apprenticeship, which can enhance their professional development and benefit the organisation.
