Prunus 'Matsumae-aizen'
Sato-zakura Group
Selected and raised by Mr Masatoshi Asari in Matsumae at the southern tip of Hokkaido, Northern Japan in 1963 from a hybrid between P. ‘Ito-kukuri’ and P. ‘Itsukayama’.
It produces large (5 to 6 cm dia.) double flowers (15 to 23 petals) pale pink flowers which open flat to reveal the stamens and pistil so produces fertile fruit (H. Kurata).
