Prunus 'Shizuka'

Trade name - Fragrant Cloud . The name 'Shizuka' means ‘quiet fragrance’ in Japanese. Raised/selected by Masatoshi Asari in Hokkaido, Northern Japan in 1960 by crossing cv. ‘Erecta’ with cv. 'Amayadori'. The purpose was to try to breed strong fragrant white-flowered cherries, which were rare in Hokkaido at that time.
Highly scented semi-double white flowers. Good autumn colours.
Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 2012.

- One planted in the Memorial Garden Square K11, Tag 4368. Planted by the Japanese Minister in 2023.
