A recent (1959) hybrid spin-off from a research programme to identify the parents of the Tokyo Cherry (Somei-yoshino) - the ubiquitous cherry planted all over Japan to celebrate the arrival of Spring.
The flowers are large, white, single and profusely produced in March.
