Innovation Voucher opens doors for family business
In 2019, new regulations will come into place into ensure that there is a consistently high level of health and safety protection for users of medical devices. This will require manufacturers to be more diligent in their record keeping throughout the development and launch of their products to ensure that the information provided is accurate and effective.
One such company affected by the new regulation is Simple Stuff Works, a family-run organisation based in Tamworth specialising in postural positioning systems and products. These products can have a huge positive impact on patients with sometimes severe medical conditions, allowing them to live more independent lives for longer, with the greatest impact often being seen in children. As such, the company approached Keele University’s Business Bridge* programme to see what support was available to help them update their systems ahead of the adherence date.
Sarah Clayton, Chief Executive of Simple Stuff Works, commented: “I’d heard of the University’s Business Bridge programme and decided to get in touch with the team to see how they could support us in our growth. With the help of the project team, we were able to secure an Innovation Voucher that covered the cost of a consultant to review our current systems and update them in line with the new regulations.
“Working with the University has opened up a number of doors for Simple Stuff Works. Not only has their support allowed us to future proof our activities and potentially win future business contracts, but we are now in conversations with the School of Pharmacy to develop partnerships that will benefit all parties.”
Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent businesses can benefit from a range of specialist support and funding, more details of which are available through Keele University’s Business Gateway on 01782 733001 or by emailing business.gateway@keele.ac.uk.
