Building business skills with Keele Internships
Keele University’s Internship programme, in partnership with Santander Universities, offers significant benefits to all parties – providing opportunities for the student interns to build their skills, knowledge and CV whilst delivering valuable resources to the host business.
Keele Internships host a number of events throughout the year on campus, allowing businesses the chance to engage with potential interns about what they do and what they can offer students through the Santander-supported placements. It was at one of these events that International Relations and International Business student Olivia Gribler first discovered the University’s internship offer.
Speaking about her experiences, Olivia said: “After attending a Keele Internship event, I spoke to a representative from local company URGOS and within a week I was working for the company. I couldn’t have been more nervous, grateful or excited about something completely new.
“During my time working at URGOS I learned about SEO copywriting, how to do research for articles and blogs, and was given the opportunity to develop my voice as a writer. I now have a portfolio of articles that are online for all to see, and not just on the company’s website.
“After that, I worked on another Santander Internship with Nicki Capewell, who runs an online Artisan market platform for both customers and sellers, called Pedddle. I helped her organise a huge event, liaise with clients and customers and rebrand her entire company, as well as write a number of blogs for the Pedddle website.
“These internships really allowed me to grow as a person and helped me realise what I want to do for a career. I really couldn't recommend the Keele Internship scheme enough; they have enhanced my university experience exponentially and I am so thankful. I wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t.”
Olivia now works for The National Training Academy, designing and managing social media campaigns, alongside blog writing and developing schemes to implement nationally across their company, using knowledge gained from the internships.
