Quorum partners with Keele for wind farm research project
An engineering consultancy with clients across the world has collaborated with Europe’s largest Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND)* to investigate the reliability of wind farms.
Quorum Logistic Support Ltd pride themselves on their analytical approach to supporting equipment across a variety of sectors, identifying ways in which designs can be enhanced to improve supportability and meet the required capability, in the most cost efficient and operationally effective manner.
Having previously worked with Keele in 2010, Quorum approached the University to see if the Research, Development and Innovation opportunities provided through the SEND programme could assist with their aim of evolving their understanding of wind farm technologies and the associated environmental and ecological impacts.
The enquiry resulted in a three-month project which saw Ajai Deo, a postgraduate student, working with Quorum and contributing to their ongoing research into the engineering impacts of wind farms, specifically reliability and maintainability.
Speaking about the project, Trevor Hirst, Operations Director at Quorum, said: “It has been great to partner with Keele University again and to collaborate with the academics and experts within the SEND programme.
“Working with Ajai has enabled us to blend our existing work with new research that will not only improve our portfolio, but also has the potential to contribute to the UK’s climate change agenda by making it more cost-effective to repair and maintain wind farm technology.”
