Keele Scientists at the British Society for Parasitology Annual Meeting
Keele's Centre for Applied Entomology and Parasitology (CAEP) was well-represented at this year’s annual meeting of the British Society for Parasitology (BSP).
The meeting, hosted at Robinson College in Cambridge, drew 570 delegates from as far afield as the USA, the Middle East and Africa for 3 days of plenary lectures, research seminars, debates and social activities.
From Keele, Hamzah Nasir, a final-year PhD student in Dr Chakravorty’s lab, gave a short talk on his work on alterations to the blood-brain barrier in cerebral malaria. Imran Ullah, a PhD student with Dr Paul Horrocks, presented a poster on bioluminescence assays for antimalarial drug activity, and Dr Helen Price, Lecturer in Biosciences, presented a poster on her studies of drug targets in Leishmania parasites. Dr Catherine Merrick, Lecturer in Biology and currently an ordinary member of the BSP council, chaired the session on Apicomplexan pathogenesis and also contributed to a taping of the Naked Scientists BBC radio show as part of the conference’s public engagement programme.
