Keele biologist invited to the first Pan African Mosquito Control Association Conference
Dr Frederic Tripet, Reader in Molecular Biology of Insect Vectors of Diseases, was invited to speak last week at the first Pan African Mosquito Control Association conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
This ground-breaking conference took place October 6-9th under the theme 'Challenges of vector control in the malaria eradication era'. More than 150 delegates from governmental bodies, research institutions and the private sector attended the event, which was designed to bolster communication and coordination amongst African vector control programmes, particularly those exploring novel vector control strategies.
Among the illustrious speakers invited for the occasion were the presidents of the European Mosquito Control Association and representatives from the American Mosquito Control Associations. Representing Keele's Centre for Applied Entomology and Parasitology (CAEP), was Frédéric Tripet (pictured below with Charles Mbogo president of PAMCA). Dr Tripet gave an invited talk on 'Ecological hurdles in the context of genetic control of disease vectors' as part of a symposium on the genetic control of disease vectors.
