Keele Biologists at the Houses of Parliament
Two Keele biologists spoke to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases on September 2nd.
Dr and Dr of Keele's Centre for Applied Entomology and Parasitology (CAEP) gave a presentation to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (APPMG) in the Palace of Westminster on September 2nd. Helen and Paul were invited to present CAEP's research on insect-borne tropical diseases as well as on agricultural pest control and fish farming health – highlighting Keele’s research impact both nationally and internationally in these areas. Subsequent presentations then focussed on their work on antimalarial and antileishmanial drug development. The APPMG is chaired by Jeremy Lefroy, MP for Stafford, who has previously visited CAEP's facilities in the Huxley Building, with Paul Farrelly, MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme, joining the session during the day.
Jeremy Lefroy said: "It was a pleasure to invite Helen and Paul to present their research on development of new therapeutics against malaria and leishmaniasis. I am always keen to support research aimed at tackling these devastating diseases, and was pleased to hear about this vital cutting-edge work being done at Keele University”.
