Keele Scientists at Royal Society Pfizer Award Ceremony
Dr Abdoulaye Diabate and Dr Frederic Tripet visited the Royal Society last week, where Dr Diabate was awarded the prestigious Royal Society Pfizer award.
Dr Diabate, who heads the medical entomology unit IRSS in Burkina Faso, was awarded this year's Royal Society Pfizer award: a prize set up in 2006 to recognize innovative contributions to biological science with a positive sustainable impact in Africa.
Dr Diabate and Dr Frederic Tripet, Reader in Molecular Biology of Insect Vectors of Diseases and a member of Keele's Centre for Applied Entomology and Parasitology (CAEP), are co-PIs on a prestigious MRC/DFID-sponsored African Research Leader grant entitled 'Targeting male mosquito behaviour for malaria control'. Their partnership is lauded as one of the most successful for this funding scheme, which is aimed at building research capacity in Africa in the field of human health and, in this case, malaria vector control.
