Keele Biologist takes her Science to Parliament
I applied for SET for Britain because it is a fantastic opportunity to present my recent research on a neglected tropical disease with a highly distinguished and influential audience at Westminster.
Dr Helen Price, a newly appointed lecturer in Bioscience at Keele, is attending Parliament to present her science to a range of politicians and a panel of expert judges, as part of 'SET for Britain' on Monday 17th March.
Helen's poster describing her research on infection strategies in the deadly human pathogen Leishmania will be judged against dozens of other biologists' research in the only national competition of its kind. (The work was carried out at the University of York, prior to Dr Price's appointment at Keele in autumn 2013). The work was shortlisted from hundreds of applicants to appear in Parliament.
Helen's research has been entered into the Biological and Biomedical Sciences session of the competition, which will end in a gold, silver and bronze prize-giving ceremony. Judged by leading academics, the gold medallist receives £3,000, while silver and bronze receive £2,000 and £1,000 respectively.
