Daphne Jackson Trust Fellow in CAEP
Dr. Vijayalathan Venugopalan (pictured below) has been awarded a Daphne Jackson Trust Fellowship for a two-year project investigating regulated cell death in the human malaria parasite following drug treatment.
These prestigious fellowships offer STEM professionals the opportunity to return to research after a career break, allowing a balance of work/life commitments whist engaging in an individually tailored retraining programme. Viji completed her PhD in 2008 at the University of Delhi before coming to the UK and starting a career break to support her young family.
Viji's fellowship is sponsored by the Faculties of Health and Natural Sciences at Keele University as well as the Medical Research Council. Viji will work with Prof. Horrocks in the Centre for Applied Entomology and Parasitology (CAEP). Viji will also be mentored by Professor Hilary Hurd, a former member of CAEP (now emeritus), who herself held a Daphne Jackson Trust Fellowship when she started her research career at Keele University.
