The module aims to develop an understanding of the legal framework that informs contemporary business practice. The module is divided into four key areas: an introduction to the English Legal System; an introduction to essential of Contract Law; an introduction to Tort Law; and an introduction to business structures and ownership. It is designed as an introduction to the legal issues and legal skills which are important in a business context, and provides an interesting opportunity to develop a level of commercial awareness. This module uses a combination of lectures and tutorials and formative and summative assessment and online self-test questions to develop a range of transferable skills, including the ability to reflect, analyse, critique and advise, problem solving and effective written communication of findings.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Open Book Examination weighted 100%24-hr online open book examThe word limit for the assessment is 3,000 words. Students must answer two questions from a choice of four. The questions carry equal weight.
The paper will be released at 10am on the morning of the exam. Students will have 24 hours within which to submit their answers. Although 24 hours has been allocated as the time frame within which answers must be submitted, we expect that students will take no more than 2-3 hours to complete their answers.
Answers must be completed and submitted in accordance with the Law School approved rubric for 24-hour online assessments.
