MAN-10024 Financial AccountingMAN-20051 Intermediate Financial Accounting
The module is designed as an advanced study of financial accounting considering international financial reporting. The module provides students with the knowledge and skills to apply current accounting standards, and critically appraise the underlying concepts and financial reporting methods. Students will also acquire knowledge and understanding of the complex theoretical frameworks applied in the financial reporting. The module uses a combination of lectures and tutorials, formative and summative assessment to develop a range of transferable abilities and skills: reflective, critical and analytic abilities, essay writing, problem solving and accounting research skills.
Aims
The module is an advanced study of corporate financial reporting and it aims:- to provide students with the thorough knowledge and ability to prepare group financial statements in accordance with the principles of International GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and the relevant IASs (International Accounting Standards) and IFRSs (International Financial Reporting Standards);- to describe and explain off-balance sheet finance schemes;- to advance the knowledge of interpretation of financial statements;- to familiarise students with the theoretical and conceptual issues of accounting standard setting process;- to discuss and explore the advanced theoretical concepts in financial accounting;- to provide adequate knowledge and skills to obtain exemptions from the syllabus of the chartered accounting bodies.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Exam weighted 40%90 minute computer based test including problem solving exercises and short essaysMid term assessment: Assessment 1 is a 90-minutes computer-based test which will be available on KLE for 24-hours to answer and submit your answers. Students should know that they will have 24-hours access to their computer-based test, but when they start the test they should finish and submit their answer in 90-minutes, otherwise the KLE will submit their answer automatically via KLE. Answers should be as accurate and concise as possible.
2: Exam weighted 60%120 minute exam - Online ExamAssessment 2 is a take-away exam which will be available on KLE for 24-hours to answer and submit your answer via Turnitin File. Although students have been given significant time to complete this exam script, we expect most students to spend no more than 3 hours to complete and submit their answers via Turnitin (with a maximum of 3000 words). Answers should be as accurate and concise as possible.
