Description for 2021/22

This module enables students to integrate and apply theoretical knowledge and problem-solving skills to a relatively large or complex technical, software, programming, research or business problem within the discipline.

Aims
To integrate and apply theoretical knowledge and problem-solving skills to an identified programming need and/or research problem within the discipline.
To acquire and demonstrate transferable skills which enhance employability in the Information Technology sector.
To develop a research topic and/or software product to an acceptable publishable or marketable standard.

Intended Learning Outcomes

identify and plan an achievable programme of investigation with realistic objectives given their area of study: 1,2,3
develop a marketable software product, software tool, or technical outputs, or conduct potentially publishable research, demonstrating skills acquired during course: 1,2

Description of Module Assessment

1: Coursework weighted 10%
A1 poster describing project & progress to date
An A1 project poster created by students which describes the project they are undertaking and their progress to date. The poster submission will be in semester 2, before the submission of the project report.

2: Dissertation weighted 85%
Project report describing process and product/results
A 7000 - 8000 word project report describing the aims and objectives of the project undertaken, the process(es) followed and the software produced/ results obtained. The project report will be submitted at the end of semester 2 and will be accompanied by a project demonstration where students can demonstrate any software working, present the product or outcomes of the project, and provide further details of the process(es) followed.

3: Competence weighted 5%
Project plan describing aims and objectives, GDPR & ethics
A brief early stage project planning report setting out the: background; aims and objectives; resource requirements; and showing adherence to necessary GDPR and ethical practice considerations.
