Description for 2021/22

In this module you will learn about geological structures, materials and processes ranging in scale from smaller than atoms to larger than planets. The module introduces the Earth as a planet, geological processes such as plate tectonics and how these processes relate to geological structures. It places emphasis on the development of essential geological skills, including the accurate description and classification of geological structures, as well as their recognition and recording on geological maps.

Aims
The module provides an introduction to the formation and structure of the Earth, the paradigm of plate tectonics and the resulting geological structures. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the internal structure of the Earth as determined using solid Earth geophysics, and the terminology, mapping and classification of geological structures and how they relate to plate tectonic processes.

Talis Aspire Reading List
Any reading lists will be provided by the start of the course.
