Description for 2021/22

The Planning Research module builds on content introduced in Year 1 & 2 of the MSci Physiotherapy programme and enables the student to prepare and write a research rationale and proposal.
Students will have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills required to complete the process of applying for ethical approval of research, composing an appropriate research design and method and explore and undertake methods of describing, presenting and analysing data.
The module aims to prepare the student to plan, develop and undertake their own research whilst also developing transferable skills (such as academic writing, analysis of data) that can be applied in a variety of healthcare settings and specialities.

To develop the students' knowledge and skills in:
identifying and formulating a research design to answer a specific research question, including methods of data/information collection and analysis;
presenting a scientifically and/or clinically coherent justification for a proposed research project;
evaluating the ethical requirements of a proposed research project.

Study hours

30 tutor led hours which may include lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials and two hours of assessment preparation classes etc.
120 hours of independent study including 20 hours of guided independent study.
