Research Horizons provides the key knowledge and skills required for a student to undertake a literature review of a Computer Science research topic related to the Division's research, and to develop a novel research idea and plan for a research proposal.
Aims
The module provides the knowledge and skills required for a student to be able to undertake a simple literature review of a Computer Science research topic related to the Division's research, and to develop a novel research idea and plan for a research proposal.
Intended Learning Outcomes

12 hours seminars; 138 hours guided independent study.
Description of Module Assessment
1: Coursework weighted 50%Literature review2000- to 3000-word literature review of a Computer Science research topic related to the Division's research.
2: Coursework weighted 50%Research proposal800- to 1200-word research proposal, including: outline of the novel research idea; motivation of the work, citing relevant research literature; the research question or questions to be addressed; and a plan that could be used to tackle them. The plan could be for a potential MSc or MComp project, or for potential use in a PhD proposal.
