The module provides a comprehensive knowledge of user interaction design and related techniques. It covers the systematic use of requirements engineering for user interaction and user experience design, the psychological and social-psychological foundations for understanding user interactions, the experimental design and evaluation of user experiences, and the development techniques and technologies for creating user interfaces for web-based and mobile applications.Students studying this module will be able to analyse, understand, and design user interactions and experiences and implement appropriate applications to support user needs. The module develops the following Keele Graduate attributes:1. An open and questioning approach to ideas, demonstrating curiosity, independence of thought and the ability to appreciate a range of perspectives on the natural and social worlds.2. An appreciation of the development and value of your chosen subjects of study, awareness of their contexts, the links between them, and awareness of the provisional and dynamic nature of knowledge.5. An appreciation of the social, environmental and global implications of your studies and other activities, including recognition of any ethical implications.8. The ability and motivation to participate responsibly and collaboratively as an active citizen in the communities in which you live and work.10. The flexibility to thrive in rapidly changing and uncertain external environments and to update skills and knowledge as circumstances require.
Aims
To provide an introduction to the design of user experiences and interactions, including the consideration of human-computer interactions, the psychology of user experience, the principles of user interface design, the systematic requirements engineering of user interactions, and the development of user interfaces for web-based applications and for mobile devices.
Intended Learning Outcomes
understand current issues in interaction design: 1apply principles of user-interface and user-experience design: 1apply requirements elicitation methods to user interaction design problems: 1evaluate system usability and interface designs: 1create user interfaces designs that incorporate the critical selection and use of interaction design techniques: 1
