Description for 2022/23

Writing Poetry is taught through a series of intensive workshops. The module gives students the opportunity to develop their own poetry and creative practice while working alongside other practitioners. It explores contemporary practice in relation to the history of poetry, enabling students to develop their own work in relation to a better understanding of the forms and structures of contemporary poetry.

Aims
24 hours: 12 x 2 hour workshops
100 hours: reading ahead of workshops and preparation
174 hours: writing portfolio and commentary
2 hours: allotted for individual consultation with tutors

Description of Module Assessment

1: Portfolio weighted 80%
portfolio of original written work
Equivalent to an A5 pamphlet of 10-15 pages of poetry

2: Reflective Analysis weighted 20%
Reflective commentary max 2000 words
No more than 2000 words. The reflective analysis discusses the planning, drafting and redrafting of the written work and its potential for publication.
