Communication of complex geological issues is an essential skill for a geological career as well as being a key transferable skill. This module develops presentation skills in a variety of styles, both oral and written. Students will research, synthesise information, summarise and orally present a series of geological topics. The module culminates with a mock conference where students present an extended abstract, poster and oral presentation.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Oral Presentation weighted 12%Oral Presentation 1A five-minute oral presentation on a geological topic based on a recent major geological event. It should be based on cutting-edge research but presented for a scicomm audience.
2: Oral Presentation weighted 24%Oral Presentation 2A ten-minute oral presentation on a geological topic based on a pre-selected area of current research. It should be based on that cutting-edge research and presented for a research audience.
3: Oral Presentation weighted 24%Oral Presentation 3A ten-minute oral presentation on a geological topic based on a pre-selected tectonic plate. It should be based on cutting-edge research but presented for a general lay audience.
4: Oral Presentation weighted 40%Oral and Poster Presentation plus Extended AbstractA ten-minute conference-style combined oral presentation in front of a poster plus a 800-word extended abstract on the role of geology within a pre-selected UN SDG.
