Clean Technology is an important area of future employability in the environment and sustainability sectors. This module gives the opportunity for students to study in depth an area of Clean Technology in which they are interested, spanning anything from the ecological impacts of different tidal energy technologies, to sustainable technologies in the aviation industry. After a broad introduction to the breadth and scope of different clean technologies and their policy implications, students will be supported to choose an area of clean technology to research and study in detail. Students will provide a critical evaluation of the potential of their chosen technology to help society move towards a more sustainable future. Towards the end of the module in a poster session, students will have the opportunity to learn from peers and reflect on clean technology developments in a broad range of areas.
Aims
This module aims to develop some principles introduced at Level II and apply them to an examination of the role of clean technologies in providing a sustainable environment. The module will introduce students to scientific research skills that are used routinely: literature searching; critical analysis of information acquired from a variety of sources; synthesis of hypotheses. The student will provide a critical appraisal of the research in their chosen area.

6 x 1 hour lectures; 3 x 1 hour drop-in clinics, 1 x 2 hour poster session. 139 hours independent study and assessment preparation. Please note this is specifically designed as a predominantly student-led module.
Description of Module Assessment
1: Poster Presentation weighted 40%A2 size posterStudents will create a professional poster focusing on an area of clean technology which is suitable for a lay audience. This will be presented in a poster session where they will discuss their chosen technologies with their peers, and complete a short reflection (~ 500 words) on a number of posters produced by their peers.
2: Report weighted 60%Report - 3500 WORDSA 3,500 word report detailing the research carried out on the chosen topic.
