This module will give you the opportunity to drive real change towards a more sustainable future, working with a stakeholder organisation. Stakeholder organisations will present a sustainability-related challenge that you will work on as a group, bringing together your expertise with learning on the theory and tools of sustainability analysis and driving change. Stakeholder organisations will vary each year and may include a range of local stakeholders from councils, businesses, non-governmental organisations and charities, education providers as well as the University itself.In your groups you will carry out a sustainability analysis of the problem, and plan and carry out a programme of work over the course of the module. The programme of work will vary depending on the stakeholder requirements, but may include an action-orientated project (for example designing and implementing an environmental awareness campaign) to a more research orientated project (for example carrying out a carbon footprint analysis). You will present your programme of work in a 5-minute video, producing a product, which is easily accessible and useful to the stakeholder. This will be presented at a final conference event where you will have the opportunity to discuss and celebrate your work with your peers and partner organisations.
Aims
This module aims to provide students with the opportunity to tackle a 'live' sustainability-focused project working with an internal or external stakeholder, with the aim of contributing either to real positive change or real research usable to the stakeholder.Students will work in groups to i) carry out a holistic sustainability analysis of the project as presented by the stakeholder using multiple methods and disciplinary approaches; ii) develop a programme of work (action or research) related to the project; iii) conduct the programme of work; iv) present this to the stakeholders in the form of a short video shown at a presentation event.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Research Proposal weighted 20%Research/action proposalThis is a group assessment (approx. 5 students per group). This assessment comprises a sustainability analysis and plan of a proposed project to be undertaken within the duration of the module. The plan/proposal includes a clear outline of the aim to be achieved, a sustainability analysis, a rationale for the focus, and a detailed outline of the different stages to be completed and related timescales and different areas of team responsibility.
2: Group Project weighted 60%Video presentation of projectThis is a group assessment (approx. 5 students per group). Groups will prepare a five minute video outlining their project, including the aims, rationale, what they carried out/what they found out. Videos will be presented at a stakeholder conference and will be made available to the related stakeholders. 10% of this group mark will be based on a peer assessment.
3: Reflective Diary weighted 20%Reflective diaryThis is an individual assessment. Students will carry out a reflection on the project that they are carrying out at different stages throughout the process. They will reflect on their learning, their learning styles, as well as a reflection on what has been achieved, its relevance to a sustainable future, and the limitations of the work achieved. This diary should take approx. 10 hours to prepare.
