Core module for Year 4 MGeoscience students that requires carrying out a detailed literature survey on a specific Geoscience topic and presenting the results from this exercise via a project Web site. At the end of the module students will have knowledge and understanding of how to author a set of self-contained Web pages in order to present results visually from a research project.
Aims
To carry out a detailed literature survey on a specific Earth Science topic and to present the results from this exercise via an oral presentation, report and a project Web site.

Intended Learning Outcomes
- Ability to collect background information on a specific scientific topic using library facilities and IT techniques (e.g. accessing on-line literature databases).
- Further development of reading skills by being able to extract and collate information presented in scientific papers.
- Building upon oral presentation skills that have been developed in previous years.
- Ability to apply time and project management skills.
- Ability to author a set of self-contained Web pages to present results from a research project (students will have been given an introduction to Web page design and authoring as part of MGeoscience module ESC-40001: Computing Skills for Earth Scientists).
- Further development of report writing skills.
